City of Rochester

News Release

(Friday, March 20, 2015) - The City of Rochester invites the community to witness an exciting exhibition of ancient traditions of combat at the 30th Annual Martial Arts Festival. On Tuesday, March 24, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., teachers and students from area martial arts organizations will gather at the Edgerton Stardust Ballroom, 41 Backus Street, to demonstrate their skill. Craig Roth, an Okinawan Seidokan master from Rochester, will emcee the festival.

Martial arts are an ancient method of training the mind, body and spirit; martial arts practitioners strive for harmony, but also learn effective self-defense techniques. At this year’s festival, practitioners of many different martial-art disciplines and styles, including Japanese Okinawan, Okinawan, Japanese Shotokan, Japanese Aikido, and Japanese Kyokushin, will perform. Members of the Rochester chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism, which celebrates the arts and skills of pre-17th century Europe, will also give a demonstration.

The festival is free and open to the public. Call 428-7442 to obtain tickets.
