News Release - Mayor Lovely Warren Announces Updates in RPD Section Captains

City of Rochester

News Release

(Friday, April 17, 2015) - Mayor Lovely Warren and Chief Ciminelli announced today an update in Captains who will command two of the police sections created under the new, neighborhood-based patrol model.

The patrol model was announced last year as a key component of Mayor’s Warrens priorities to create safer neighborhoods, more jobs and better schools.

The model, which is slated to take effect late Sunday night, replaces the two-division patrol model with a five-section model giving individual officers smaller areas of responsibility, thus enabling them to spend more time engaging citizens.

New Section Captains are as follows:

• Captain Korey Brown, Clinton Section: Captain Brown has 18 years of service and was recently promoted to police captain. He is currently assigned as a patrol captain in the East Division

• Captain David M. Smith, Central Section: Captain Smith has 22 years of service, and was recently promoted to police captain. He is currently assigned as the Downtown Detail Captain.

Captain Wilson Johnson, who had previously been named to command the Clinton Section will retire after 32 years of service, and Captain Peter Leach, who had previously been named to command the Central Section is transferring to the Special Operations Section of the Rochester Police Department.
