News Release

(Wednesday, May 13, 2015) – Mayor Lovely Warren has announced that residents may access the City of Rochester’s 2014 Water Quality Report online at www.cityofrochester.gov/waterquality, or by picking up a brochure at City branch libraries or Neighborhood Service Centers.

“In Rochester we are fortunate to have an abundance of fresh water, and maintaining the quality of our water is always a top priority,” said Mayor Warren. “Water is one of our most important resources, critical to business operations, schools and the entire community. Pristine, pure drinking water is essential to a healthy life, and we plan to keep it that way.”

The Report, completed annually by the City’s Department of Environmental Services, Bureau of Water, publishes the results of extensive water testing for more than 80 types of regulated microorganisms and chemical compounds. The City conducts these tests on drinking water as it makes its way from the City’s Hemlock Lake Water Treatment Plant, on to storage reservoirs, and then into city homes. All tests were found to be in compliance with State and Federal drinking water requirements.

In 2014, the Water Bureau spent more than $8 million on system improvements to the Hemlock Filtration Plant, transmission system, reservoirs, dams and distribution system. Some of the program highlights are as follows: structural and mechanical improvements to Cobb’s Hill Reservoir, including a new reservoir bypass system and upgrades to the chlorine system and reservoir automation; completion of the South Clinton Avenue project of modernizing 10,000 feet of transmission conduit; and cleaning and lining 1.2 miles of 36” conduit leading into Cobb’s Hill Reservoir. Detailed information on additional water system improvements that were completed or initiated last year are included in the Water Quality Report.

“A reliable public water supply is critical for keeping our neighborhoods vibrant and attracting new business our region, which in turn creates more jobs for our residents,” said Mayor Warren.
