News Release - Mayor Warren Unveils New Design for City Website

City of Rochester

News Release

(Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015) -- Mayor Lovely A. Warren unveiled a newly designed City website (www.cityofrochester.gov) today featuring a new home page and portal pages for City services, departments and priorities. The City website features responsive design, allowing it to adapt its size according to the device being used, making it friendly for desktop and laptop computers as well as notebooks, tablets and smartphones. The design is the first revision of City’s website since 2009.

“A growing number of citizens are relying on mobile devices as their primary point of access to the Internet,” said Mayor Warren. “We must continue to bridge the digital divide and give our citizen-customers every opportunity to access services and learn about the many events and new developments taking place in the city through our website. This new design gives us an important tool to help us fulfill our mission to create more jobs, safer, more vibrant neighborhoods and provide all of our children with a quality education.”

The home page features a dominant search engine which continues to provide quick and easy access to all City web content. Search results are categorized as web pages, news releases or calendar items. The robust, easy-to-navigate services page will help customers quickly find the services they need. City events calendar items and City news releases are streamed on the home page, along with direct links to other popular content.

The City website receives approximately 160,000 visits per month. Visitors to the site can – among other things – apply for City jobs, pay their tax and water bills, renew alarm permits and donate to Rochester Animal Services or Mount Hope Cemetery’s Reforest campaign. Approximately 65,000 such online transactions take place on the site annually.
