News Release - Genesee River Romance Weekend Begins Friday, City Kicks off Weekend With Riverway Trail Dedication

City of Rochester

News Release

(Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren invites the community to enjoy more than 30 autumn activities during the Genesee River Romance Weekend, Friday, Oct. 2 through Sunday, Oct. 4.

The River Romance Weekend was announced with a ceremony dedicating a section of the Genesee Riverway Trail from the Seneca Park bridge to the Middle Falls Dam to former City Councilmember Bob Stevenson and his late wife Mary. Both worked tirelessly over the last three decades to establish the section of the trail which runs through the Maplewood Neighborhood.

“River Romance Weekend offers an excellent opportunity to get outside and re-discover the beauty and history of the Genesee River,” said Mayor Warren. “This event series is made possible through the hard work of many dedicated volunteers. It is fitting that we are celebrating Bob and Mary Stevenson, who have volunteered so much of their time and efforts into making sure everyone can enjoy the River’s wonders. Volunteerism is key to our efforts to create safer, more vibrant neighborhoods, more jobs and better educational opportunities for our children.”

Genesee River Romance, a tradition in Rochester for more than 25 years, is produced by the City of Rochester and many other community partners. Events include tours of historic sites along the river gorge, guided walks, bike rides, river cruises, kayaking excursions and, of course, romance.
