News Release - Public Libraries Assist with Affordable Care Act Enrollment

Central Library of Rochester & Monroe County

News ReleaseĀ

(Friday, Nov. 13, 2015) - Residents of Monroe County can go to area libraries for assistance in enrolling in the New York State Health Care Exchange. Navigators from LawNY and Coordinated Care Services, Inc are on site at 11 libraries through the end of January 2016.

Americans regularly turn to local libraries as a trusted resource for information regarding government initiatives and programs. A recent study by the American Library Association showed that more than one third of library computer users (28 million people) are seeking assistance from librarians for health and wellness issues, including learning about medical conditions, finding health care providers and assessing health insurance options. Also, 97 percent of libraries reported assisting patrons with applying for and accessing e-government services.

The Navigators are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Enrollees will need to provide their most recent tax return, identification and the birth dates and Social Security numbers of all family members they wish to enroll.

The full list of dates, times and locations can be found at www.libraryweb.org.
