News Release

(Thursday, April 21, 2016) – The CityAge Conference has selected Rochester as the host city for its 2016 summit on “The New American City”, Mayor Lovely A. Warren announced today. The summit will be a gathering of city and business leaders from across the country to discuss the urban renaissance underway in American cities.

“The CityAge conference is a great opportunity to showcase our city and everything we have been able to accomplish, both downtown and in our neighborhoods,” Mayor Lovely A. Warren said. “From filling in the Inner Loop to repurposing old buildings to cleaning up our brownfield sites, we are revitalizing and repurposing every corner of our city and creating more jobs, safer and more vibrant neighborhoods and better educational opportunities. I am grateful the conference organizers accepted my invitation, and I look forward to welcoming our very special guests in June.”

The CityAge conference will be held June 7, and registration is now open. To register or for more information visit: http://cityage.org/rochester/

Rochester is quickly establishing itself as a leader among “The New American Cities.” Previously vacant high rises are being converted into Downtown housing. The former Inner Loop East site will be developed with not just the current, but future, generations in mind. And through unique partnerships with area employers and the city’s anchor institutions, jobs are returning to Rochester’s neighborhoods.

Hosted by Mayor Warren, and building on prior conferences in Kansas City, New York, San Francisco, Philadelphia and Seattle, CityAge will gather a regional and national audience to discuss the business of city building, and how leaders can take the lead in the new economy through smart partnerships with business, academic and philanthropic leaders, and new investments in the infrastructure and technologies that tomorrow’s companies need to grow.

By 2050, 85 percent of the population in North America will live in cities, according to a report by the United Nations. With this growth comes a renaissance in our nation’s urban cores, fueled by partnerships among business, university and city leaders.

“We believe that America’s original cities, particularly those in the northeast, are undergoing a remarkable transition, driving by innovation and unique partnerships between business and government,” said CityAge co-founder Miro Cernetig. “Rochester is one of these cities, and CityAge will be bringing in government and business leaders from others to talk about this urban and economic renaissance. Downtowns are growing again, and a new urban economy is taking shape, one based on innovation, knowledge and entrepreneurship.”
