City of Rochester

News Release

(Wednesday June 29, 2016) - “Rochester Architecture and Street Scenes” Photography by Frank Liberti explores the diversity and beauty of Rochester. Liberti’s work will be on exhibit from June 29 through August 1, 2016. The Link Gallery is located at 30 Church Street, on the first floor of City Hall in the corridor that connects Building A to Building B opened Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm. Free, handicapped accessible and open to the public.

His panoramic images of some of the iconic Rochester architecture and street scenes showcase Rochester as a unique city. “My images are all shown in a 1x3 format; because of their high resolution (most made by blending and stitching together 15 to 30 individual frames) these images printed using high temperature and pressure which infuses the ink directly into specially coated highly polished aluminum sheets,” says Frank Liberti. His prints take on a bright, vibrant, luminescent quality when printed on this durable, waterproof surface.

Frank Liberti is a native Rochesterian. His interest in photography dates back to the late 1960’s when he was fortunate enough to take an underwater photography course offered by Kodak staff photographer, Neil Montanus, who produced many of the 40 ft. Colorama images that hung in New York City’s Grand Central Station.

Liberti’s first SLR camera was a 35 mm film Canon Pellix which introduced him to the technical aspects of photography. Being a family member of a lifelong Kodak employee, and enjoying summer employment at Kodak during college breaks, provided him with access to the wonderful Kodak Camera Club darkroom facilities. His photography took a long hiatus only to be renewed in 2007 with his first digital SLR, a Canon XTi. The digital darkroom replaced the traditional darkroom and brought with it access to photographic tools that reside conveniently in my home computer.

His photographic interests include nature photography featuring scenes from New York State, Florida and the American Southwest. However, it is his native city, Rochester, NY that provides the inspiration for the images in this exhibit.

The City of Rochester values the visual arts as an educational and aesthetic experience. More importantly, the City sees local art as part of the culture of this region. With this in mind, the Link Gallery, established 1981, promotes the art and art culture of the area.
