News Release - Mayor Lovely A. Warren’s Statement on Women’s Equality Day

City of Rochester

News Release

(Friday, August 26, 2016) -- "In Rochester we are proud of our history as leaders in the women’s rights movement. On Women’s Equality Day, we celebrate the legacy of trailblazers such as Rochester’s own Susan B. Anthony. If it weren’t for their bravery and self-sacrifice, we would not be where we are today.

"However, we must also remember that the fight is not over. Many women are at a disadvantage when it comes to access to jobs and quality educational opportunities for their children. So, as we celebrate the legacy of those who came before us, we also must continue the fight to pave the way for those who follow in our footsteps.

"The tasks may seem insurmountable at times, but as Susan B. Anthony said, 'Failure is impossible.'"
