New Release- Get Your Dog Licensed and Receive A Gift

City of Rochester

News Release

(Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren announced today that Rochester Animal Services (RAS) has launched a campaign in partnership with Pet Saver Healthy Pet Superstore and the Verona Street Animal Society (VSAS) to encourage city residents to license their dogs.

“A dog license is an act of love,” said Mayor Warren. “A dog license alerts Animal Control officers that a lost dog is not a stray, and helps them re-unite lost dogs with their owners. It also proves that your dog has been vaccinated against rabies. I want to thank Pet Saver Healthy Pet Superstore and the Verona Street Animal Society for supporting our efforts to protect more dogs in Rochester.”

As part of the campaign, the City will distribute free “doggie bags” to all dog owners who obtain or renew a new license for their dogs at the City of Rochester Clerk’s Office in room 100A of City Hall, 30 Church St. Each bag contains treats and coupons from Pet Saver Healthy Pet Superstore. Owners who obtain a new license will also be given a leash and a collar provided by VSAS.

All giveaways are being offered while supplies last.

A rabies vaccination is required before a dog can be licensed. Contact a local veterinarian or the Monroe County Department of Health about obtaining rabies vaccinations.

A dog license provides the following benefits:
• It identifies and protects your dog in case it becomes lost.
• It identifies that your dog is not a stray.
• Animal Services will contact you if your dog comes to the shelter wearing a license tag.
• A license is proof that your dog has been vaccinated against rabies.
