City of Rochester

News Release

(Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016) – Kate Washington, Deputy Commissioner of the City’s Department of Neighborhood and Business Development and City Councilmember Elaine Spaull joined business owner Tanvi Asher today for a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the grand opening of Peppermint at the Culver Road Armory at 145 Culver Rd.

Peppermint is a homegrown, Rochester-based brand and boutique offering locally-designed apparel and accessories for young women as well as custom Rochester-centric gifts, jewelry, cards and other handcrafted items. Peppermint is home to over 45 artisans from Rochester and across the nation and the store carries retro-inspired brands from around the world. Every article of clothing comes with a “perfect fit guarantee,” and tailoring is offered at no extra charge.

“It is my pleasure to congratulate Tanvi Asher and welcome Peppermint to the Culver Road Armory,” said Mayor Warren. “Peppermint is a unique store where shoppers get to meet and greet the maker of the brand—Ms. Asher. Entrepreneurs like Tanvi add a special energy and character to our city, bolstering our efforts to create safer more vibrant neighborhoods, more jobs and ultimately, better educational opportunities for our citizens. I thank Ms. Asher for choosing to invest in our city and wish her every success at the historic Culver Road Armory.”

Peppermint first opened in April 2012 and was previously located on Park Avenue. Asher chose to move to the Armory because the building honors the history of Rochester while embracing modern growth. The Armory is ideally-located at the Interstate 490 crossing between Park and Monroe Avenues making it easily accessible to the entire community. The new space is 500 square feet larger than its previous location.

“Peppermint is about finding fresh looks to help your authentic self shine through,” said Asher. “In that way, the Armory itself is a perfect metaphor and complement to our brand. We are delighted to move into a building with such rich history and to contribute to the vibrancy and character of the city of Rochester.”

Peppermint’s hours are as follows: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 pm.; and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Peppermint employs seven associates.
