News Release - Rochester Recreation Facilities to Close Due to Inclement Weather

(Tuesday, March 14, 2017) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren announced that due to heavy snow and strong winds, all City of Rochester R-Centers, with the exception of the David F. Gantt location, will remain closed today. The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ice Rink is presently closed and the Genesee Valley Park Ice Rink will close at 3 p.m.

All libraries will close at 3 p.m.

The David F. Gantt R-Center will continue to operate as a temporary emergency shelter for residents without heat until further notice, as part of the City's Heat Sweep Program in partnership with the American Red Cross of Greater Rochester. While serving as an emergency shelter, The Gantt R-Center will be open 24 hours a day and provide cots, showers and hot meals courtesy of Foodlink. It is suggested that those who need to sleep at the shelter bring a pillow.

The Summer of Opportunity program intake at the Recreation Bureau Office at 400 Dewey Ave., will close at 5 p.m. in conjunction with office closure.

Police Citizen Interaction Committee Meetings Cancelled

All Police Citizen Interaction Committee (PCIC) meetings scheduled for today and Wednesday have been cancelled due to the winter storm. The PCICs will resume their normal schedule next week, which can be found by visiting www.cityofrochester.gov/pcic/.
