City of Rochester

News Release

(Wednesday, May 3, 2017) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren announced today that the City Finance Department has been awarded the 2016 Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada for its preparation of Rochester’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. This is the 33rd consecutive year that the City has received the award — the highest level of professional recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.

“Careful stewardship of our taxpayers’ dollars is important to our mission of creating more jobs, safer more vibrant neighborhoods and better educational opportunities throughout our city,” said Mayor Warren. “This national recognition of excellence affirms that stewardship and we are proud of the entire team in the City’s Finance Department, under the leadership of Director Charles Benincasa.”

The certificate recognizes the City’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2016. The certificate standards include the demonstration of a “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate the City’s financial story. The entire Financial Report may be viewed at www.cityofrochester.gov/CAFR.

The GFOA is a nonprofit association serving approximately 18,600 government finance professionals. Its Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program was established in 1945.
