News Release - A Memorial Day Greeting from Mayor Lovely A. Warren

City of Rochester

News Release

(Friday, May 26, 2017) – Memorial Day is a favorite holiday in Rochester. It signals the start of summer. The approach of the long weekend brings welcome anticipation of warm summer evenings, outdoor grilling, weekend festivals and well deserved time spent relaxing and exploring with family and friends.

But we must also remember that the joys of summer, indeed the joys of all American traditions, were earned by our fallen heroes, the members of our Armed Forces who died in the performance of their service. These brave men and women have left behind family members and friends, many of whom continue to mourn their loss.

As we begin this holiday weekend, I urge all of our citizens to enjoy themselves safely and responsibly. But I also urge you to take a moment to remember the reason we celebrate this very special holiday.
