News Release - Mayor Warren and theRPO Invite the Community to a Free “Around the Town” Neighborhood Ensemble Concert Tonight

(Tuesday, July 11, 2017) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra invite residents to a series of free “Around the Town” Neighborhood Ensemble Concerts scheduled throughout the city this summer. The first concert of the series will be held at 6:30 p.m. tonight at Susan B. Anthony Square, 31 Madison St., and features the RPO Jazz Trio. In the event of rain, the concert will be held at the DePaul Carriage Factory Apartments, 33 Litchfield St.

All events are open to the public, and tickets are not required. The series is produced in partnership with the Maplewood Neighborhood Association, the Susan B. Anthony Neighborhood Association, the Joseph Avenue Arts and Culture Alliance and the Park Avenue Neighborhood Association.

Performances feature various ensembles comprised of RPO musicians and run Tuesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Remaining concerts are as follows:

• Tuesday, July 18: RPO Brass Quintet with the Garth Fagan Youth Dance Ensemble, the Rochester Latino Theatre Company, and the Joseph Avenue Arts and Culture Alliance - corner of Joseph and Clifford Avenues. (Rain location: Avenue D R-Center, 200 Ave D)

• Tuesday, July 25: RPO Brass Quintet in conjunction with neighborhood’s annual Cops and Dogs event (hot dog cookout with RPD members) - Barrington Park, aka “Park Avenue Green,” on the corner of Barrington Street and Park Avenue. (Rain location: Immanuel Baptist Church, Park Avenue and Brunswick Street)

• Tuesday, August 1: RPO Marimba Band at Maplewood Rose Garden - 250 Maplewood Ave. (Rain location: Edgerton R-Center, 41 Backus St.)

Now in its third year, the Around the Town Neighborhood Ensemble Concerts continue to bring the RPO into the community and give the community an opportunity to experience and enjoy classical music. Please note that performances do not feature the entire RPO.

All performances are free of charge and tickets are not required. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket.
