News Release - Statement from Mayor Lovely A. Warren on Second Amendment Guarantee Act

City of Rochester

News Release

(Monday, July 31, 2017) – The New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement (SAFE) Act of 2013 received wide, bipartisan support because it took common sense steps to keep guns from those most likely to hurt themselves or others, while safeguarding the constitutional right to bear arms for law-abiding New Yorkers. In contrast, The Second Amendment Guarantee Act unveiled today would take unnecessary steps to roll back these important measures and reverse the progress we have been making here in the city of Rochester.

In Rochester, crime is at a 30-year low; and last year, shootings were down 22 percent. We are working hard to take illegal guns off the street. I urge Congress to reject this dangerous legislation and I look forward to continuing to stand with Governor Cuomo in his efforts to make our streets and neighborhoods safer
