News Release - Mayor Warren, Rochester Police Department and Southeast Neighborhood Service Center Roll Out Positive Ticket Program

City of Rochester

News Release

(Monday, Aug. 21, 2017) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren, the Rochester Police Department and the City’s Southeast Neighborhood Service Center announce that the City’s Positive Ticket Program will officially launch today with an inaugural Positive Ticket “patrol.” This program identifies and rewards citizens for acts of positive behavior with police-issued Positive Tickets.

Interested members of the media who would like to follow the Positive Ticket patrol may meet at 2 p.m. today, Aug. 21, at the Thomas P. Ryan R-Center, 530 Webster Ave., to walk several neighborhood streets in the Beechwood area.

“The Positive Ticket Program is about creating opportunities for our citizens to have more positive interactions with our police officers and is an excellent example of community policing.” said Mayor Warren. “We’re working hard in Rochester to create safer more vibrant neighborhoods, more jobs and better educational opportunities for our children. This program will let the world know how truly great our good citizens are, and that we appreciate them.”

Police Officers on patrol will issue Positive Tickets to people they see doing good deeds. Good deeds could be helping a resident cross the street safely, helping someone with yard work, assisting a resident by carrying groceries or any other action that positively benefits a neighbor or neighborhood. A Positive Ticket will come with a coupon for food, a treat or a fun activity as provided by community sponsors.

“Positive Tickets is about the community coming together to build positive relationships and uplift our youth and others so that they know they are valued,” said Chief Ciminelli.

Partners include: YMCA of Greater Rochester; Domino’s Pizza; McDonald’s; 7/11; Salvatore’s; New Creations Unisex Shop; Community Asset Partner Network; Flower City AmeriCorps; the Rochester Museum and Science Center; City R-Center leaders and Library staff; and Youth Voice One Vision.

Interested community members and business owners who would like to be part of the program should contact Alyce Sanders at the Southeast Neighborhood Service Center at 428-7640 or via email at Alyce.Sanders@cityofrochester.gov.
