News Release -- Statement from Mayor Lovely A. Warren Regarding NYS Grant to Combat Motor Vehicle Theft and Insurance Fraud

City of Rochester

News Release

(Monday, Oct. 16, 2017) – I want to thank Governor Cuomo and the New York State Motor Vehicle Theft and Insurance Fraud Prevention Board for awarding the Rochester Police Department and our partners in the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office with $173,020 to combat motor vehicle theft and insurance fraud.

These crimes have a disproportionate effect on people living in poverty because they add to the cost of owning and operating a motor vehicle, which makes it more difficult to find and keep a job. I am grateful that our governor recognizes the true social impact of motor vehicle theft and insurance fraud and is taking proactive steps to reduce them. Programs like this help us create more jobs, safer more vibrant neighborhoods and better educational opportunities for our citizens.
