Mayor Warren to Pay Homage to Suffrage Anniversary on
Election Day
(Monday, Nov. 6, 2017) – To mark the 100th Anniversary of
Women Suffrage in New York State, Mayor Lovely A. Warren is helping citizens
remember Susan B. Anthony and all the “women like her” by lighting City Hall,
the Rundel Memorial Library Building and the High Falls purple on Election Day
Tuesday.
“I am proud to join with women from all over the country
in celebrating the accomplishments of the great Rochester heroine Susan B.
Anthony, and all of the women like her as we prepare to cast our votes in this
year’s general election,” Mayor Warren said. “The 100th Anniversary of Women’s
Suffrage in New York State is a reminder of how far we have come as a society,
but also, how far we still have to go. We must continue fighting for equality
in all walks of life. As Susan B. Anthony taught us, ‘Failure is Impossible.’”
Mayor Warren, N.Y. State Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul and
Susan B. Anthony House Executive Director Deborah Hughes will pay their
respects to the State’s Suffrage anniversary with a visit to Susan B. Anthony’s
grave at 11:30 a.m., Nov. 7. For those who would like to continue the Election
Day tradition of visiting Susan B. Anthony’s final resting place, Mount Hope
Cemetery will be open normal hours, from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Special Susan B.
Anthony “I Voted Because of Women Like Her” stickers will be available at the
gravesite. The City is discouraging the placement of stickers on Anthony’s
headstone to avoid damaging it. A board will be set up near the site to
accommodate the stickers. Parking will be available by the fountain at the
North Gate Entrance.
