News Release - Mayor Warren Invites Community to Lighting of the Liberty Pole Presented by Sharp Notions

(Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017) – Mayor Lovely Warren invites the community to the lighting of the Liberty Pole holiday kick off, to be held at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2. This year’s lighting is presented by Sharp Notions and supported by iHeart Media. The event continues with a family parade to the season opening of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park Ice Rink for fireworks, free ice skating, kid crafts inside the lodge and more.

“There’s no place like Downtown to make holiday memories, and the annual Lighting of the Liberty Pole celebration is a Rochester favorite,” said Mayor Warren. “Events like this add vitality to our city and bolster our efforts to create safer, more vibrant neighborhoods, more jobs and better educational opportunities for our residents. Whether you live here, are returning home to see family or are visiting our city to find some holiday spirit, I invite you to take in these events and see why Rochester is the place to be during the holidays. I want to thank Sharp Notions and iHeart Media for their generous support of this event.”

Schedule of Events:
• 4:30 p.m.: Join iHeart radio personality “the Mayor” Pete Kennedy as he spins holiday music while Santa, Rudolph, elves, and local sports team mascots greet kids at the Liberty Pole
• 5 p.m.: Lighting of the Liberty Pole with Mayor Lovely Warren and live music by Prime Time Brass
• 5:10 p.m.: Family holiday parade from Liberty Pole to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park with Santa and friends as well as the Rochester Fire Department’s hook and ladder truck
• 5:30-8:30 p.m.: Fireworks, FREE ice skating, horse-drawn carriage rides, and kid crafts at MLK Park Ice Rink (Skate rental is $3 and limited, bring your own ice skates if possible)

Free parking with trolley shuttle service is available at the East End Garage, 475 E. Main St.; Washington Square Garage, 111 Woodbury Blvd.; and Mortimer Street Garage, 25 N. Clinton Ave., between Mortimer Street and Division Street. Free trolley rides may be taken from the rink back to nearby parking garages until 9 p.m.
