The Permit Office is the starting point to apply for a permit for any type of construction.   This includes: new construction, renovations, installation of fences, decks, sheds, pools, signs, demolition of a building or structure, electrical, plumbing and elevator work.

The Permit Office also coordinates licensing of the following trades in the City of Rochester: Stationary Engineers and Refrigeration Operators, Electricians, Plumbers and Elevator Mechanics, Installers and Inspectors. Those who wish to become licensed must apply for an exam at the permit office.

The Permit Office is a primary point of intake for Certificate of Occupancy applications.   Property owners may apply in person, or by mail to:

The Permit Office is open Monday through Friday 9:00 AM until 4:45 PM. Payments for Permit Applications may be made by cash, check or charge. Checks should be made payable to: City of Rochester, Treasurer.
