BUILDINGS & ZONING
The Bureau of Buildings and Zoning is
responsible for compliance with the New
York State Building Code, the New York
State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building
Code and the City of Rochester Zoning
Ordinance.
We issue permits for all types of construction
and demolition. The Bureau consists
of three divisions that oversee the various
components of permit issuance in
the City of Rochester: Plan Review and
Inspection, Zoning and the Permit Office.
The Bureau is also responsible
for the oversight of trades licensing for work done within
the city limits. To learn more about this and access applications
forms, click on the link above for the Permit Office web

The City’s building permit process is managed by the Bureau of Buildings
and Zoning in conjunction with the Department of Environmental Services.
We provide one stop shopping for all of your construction permitting needs.
All applications are reviewed for compliance to City and State codes through
the permit process.
