Maplewood Neighborhood Sculpture and Sign

A dramatic 35 foot tall eye catching sculpture will be installed in "The Triangle" at West Ridge Road and Lake Avenue to signify the entrance to the Maplewood Neighborhood, created by artist Dejan Pejovic.

This sensuous, delicate and whimsical sculpture will sit atop a mounded landscape in the triangle formed by the intersection of W. Ridge Road, Ridgeway Avenue and Lake Avenue. It will be constructed of formed steel, with stainless steel cabling, giving it a harp-like appearance.

It will rise 36’ high and have a triangular base of approximately 27’. The lighted sculpture will be installed upon completion of the highway reconstruction in the area, in the fall of 2006.

Funding for the sculpture design has been secured with a grant from the Arts and Cultural Council for Greater Rochester, Citibank and the City of Rochester .

A major source of support has come from the Mayor of Rochester’s Sector Targeted Funding Initiative, which requires matching funding. Many local individuals and businesses have become involved by providing products and services.

A Maplewood entryway sign will be installed on the northwest side of the Veterans Bridge and the new pedestrian bridge, which is to be constructed just west of the current structure.

After reviewing many design possibilities, a team of residents and project resource personnel, with assistance from Miller Brick Company, reached consensus on the size and texture of the sign. The sign will be lighted and approximately 17 ft. in length, and stand 5 ft. high at the two end columns.

Engraved, granite lettering, "Historic Maplewood" will appear on the face of the sign. Medina stone colored facing will cover the sign. This will compliment the medina stone treatment that will be part of the arching structures found in the new pedestrian bridge.

The project has been fully supported by area residents and businesses with involvement throughout the process.
