Educational
Excellence
Providing progressive, safe public education
with an emphasis on lifelong learning and workplace preparation.

City youth had their own opportunity to become
a meaningful part of Rochester’s Renaissance at the 2010 Youth
Conference. |
 |
Safer Schools
A total of 24 new School Resource Officers will be assigned
in and around schools, thanks to a $3,000,000 federal grant
secured in 2001. These sworn officers’ activities include crisis
intervention, service liaison between the school and other law
enforcement units and agencies, and assisting school-based personnel
in violence prevention and other educational initiatives.
Basic Employability Skills Training (BEST) Program
The BEST program is an employment training program that uses
diverse trainers, a non-traditional curriculum and intense mentoring
to prepare adults for the workplace. |
 |
Preparing Kids for
a High Tech Future
Youth are the future and the City of Rochester is helping them
to prepare. KidTech works with children and youth ages 6-17
to increase their access to personal computers and Internet
technology, as well as increase their computing skills. Graduates
receive a refurbished personal computer at no cost.
The Good Grades Pay provides paid job opportunities
in community businesses for young people age 14-17 who keep
their grades up and have no discipline problems in school. |
| Biz Kid$ is a free camp
designed to allow youth an opportunity to explore entrepreneurship.
Biz Kid$ develop real business plans and learn
to manage money. Business start-up supplies — such as business cards,
a calculator and receipt book — are provided to help the young
entrepreneurs get started. |

During the 24 month Phase 1 Implementation
of the Plan, the City of Rochester invested $268,281,100 on
municipal operations and programs in support of the “Educational
Excellence” Campaign goals and policies. |
