Developing
Our Waterway Access
Frederick Law Olmsted’s landscape designed park surrounds the
confluence of the Genesee River and the Erie Canal, and the junctions
of the Genesee Riverway Trail, the Erie Canal Heritage Trail and
the Genesee Valley Greenway Trail. Along with the annual River Regatta,
the new Genesee Waterways Center, developed in partnership with
the Rochester Rowing Club and the University of Rochester, will
make Rochester a prime rowing destination for competitors and spectators
from around the nation and world. Additional improvements including
the installation of the Genesee Riverway Trail Signage will continue
to enhance our riverway assets.

Rochester 365 Days a Year
Coldrush is a joint promotional and marketing effort
of the City of Rochester, the Greater Rochester Visitors Association
and the Arts and Cultural Council of Greater Rochester to
promote activities, performances, exhibits and other programs
in the Greater Rochester area during the winter of 2002. Coldrush
marketing efforts extend to a 200 mile radius of Rochester
and promote all that is good about winter in our area with
the goal of attracting visitors during a traditionally slow
tourism season. |

Transforming Historic
Buildings Into Tourism Destinations
Efforts are underway to update the Historic Resources Survey,
last completed in 1986. The goals of this project is to research
historically significant sites, in order to identify structures
to recommend to the State and National Register of Historic
places; and to improve our own understanding of our history
and growth.
As
the home of Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglass, Rochester
is an important stop on New York State’s Freedom Trail — a
regional effort to link historic sites associated with
Underground Railroad. |

In addition, $836,480 in external funding was devoted to this
campaign by community partners.
