The Renaissance...

dnt_0003“Rochester 2010: The Renaissance” is the City of Rochester’s comprehensive plan. Adopted in 1999 by City Council, the Plan captures the heart and spirit of this community. It is a vibrant tapestry of humanitarian, economic and cultural threads woven together to create a community renaissance that is not just envisioned — but is being realized by citizens and government working together in every sector of the community.

spoco1The Renaissance Plan is founded on three themes:

  • RESPONSIBILITY: strengthening our community through citizen involvement and responsibility to serving the common good.
  • OPPORTUNITY: embracing creativity, inventiveness, and vision to provide economic stability, cultural resources and social diversity.
  • COMMUNITY: developing neighborhoods that are diverse, cooperative, and future-oriented to help improve the quality of life.

The Plan consists of eleven distinct campaigns that represent a vision for our future. Implementation of the Plan began in earnest in January 2000 and will continue until the year 2010. The Plan is being implemented by campaign teams consisting of citizens and city staff, NBN sector groups and community organizations committed to the goals of the Renaissance Plan. The goals and strategies of each campaign will be accomplished in five phases. Each 2-year phase will provide opportunities for involvement in strategy development and project implementation activities by joining a campaign team or committing to the accomplishment of specific campaign strategies.

  PLAN IMPLEMENTATION TIME LINE
  PHASE 1: January 2000 – December 2001
  PHASE 2: January 2002 – December 2003
  PHASE 3: January 2004 – December 2005
  PHASE 4: January 2006 – December 2007
  PHASE 5: January 2008 – December 2009

This Progress Report highlights selected campaign accomplishments and city programs that occurred during PHASE 1. The scope, diversity and sheer quantity of campaign accomplishments made it impossible to list them all, however, this report attempts to provide a sense of the movement and progress of the Renaissance Plan. Many of the projects highlighted in PHASE 1 represent significant capital, human investment and economic development projects that have changed the street scape and appearance of this community.

homeexp1Implementation of these projects were necessary to provide a strong foundation for the managed growth of our community. Subsequent reports will continue to highlight these types of projects as well as providing information on the projects and activities of community partners committed to this community’s renaissance.

Building on a ten-year plan that began in 1999, we will continue to work towards building the community of our dreams. The Renaissance is already visible in many areas of the city and hundreds of citizens are part of the excitement. Opportunity abounds for those who become involved with the Renaissance Plan.
