Recreation, Exercise and Choreography At the Recreation Centers
From June 24 through August 31, 2013, the Bureau of Recreation will run R.E.C.@ the REC, an exciting multi-faceted youth health initiative intended to encourage children from the ages of 6 and 10 to participate in structured Recreation Exercise and Choreographed (R.E.C) activities through Dance, Step and Double Dutch.
R.E.C. @ the REC is a result of a partnership between The Greater Rochester Health Foundation (GRHF) and the Department of Recreation and Youth Services (DRYS).
Youth will also be engaged in physical activity and foster healthy habits through program titled “Project Move” and various interactive workshops under the Be a Healthy Hero initiative.
The fourth program cycle, begins June24, 2013 will take place at various Recreation and Community Center sites throughout the city.
The following is a list of sites and the genres each will be available for the upcomming 4th cycle:
- Ryan Community Center, 530 Webster Ave
- Double Dutch, Dance and Step
- DR Freddie Thomas High School, 625 Scio St
- Flint Street Community Center, 271 Flint Street
- Avenue D Community Center, 200 Avenue D
- Adams Street Community Center, 85 Adams Street
With the City’s standing relationship with youth in our communities and the GRHF’s focus on creating a healthier community through education and activities, this initiative will be an excellent opportunity for all parties to further their respective goals and missions.
