“The health of our citizens is vital to the health of our city. If we want to continue our progress in creating more jobs, safer and more vibrant neighborhoods and better educational opportunities, it is incumbent upon us to help families get the health care they need.” -- Mayor Lovely A. Warren
Sign up for the Affordable Care Act
Mayor Lovely A. Warren is encouraging Rochester citizens to sign up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act.
The Central Library and select City branch libraries will host numerous events offering information and individualized help with using the Health Insurance Marketplace, which helps the uninsured to enroll in health coverage.
"Everyone deserves to live a healthy, vibrant life,” said Mayor Warren. “I’m asking citizens to reach out to friends, family and neighbors to let them know that their health is important to all of us, and if they don’t have health insurance, that help in securing health insurance is readily available.”
The open enrollment period for 2019 coverage is Nov. 1, 2018 to Jan. 31, 2019. Dec. 15 is the last day to ensure coverage by January 1, 2019.
Healthcare Navigators will give free, in-person application assistance to individuals and families at initial enrollment or when renewing coverage.
Navigators remove barriers to the application process by providing assistance in English and Spanish, in community based settings.
Those looking for assistance in enrolling are asked to bring current ID, previous year's tax returns, Social Security numbers and birth dates of those enrolling. No appointment is necessary.
If you’re currently enrolled in a 2018 Marketplace plan, your benefit year ends Dec. 31, 2018. To continue health coverage in 2019, you can renew your current health plan or choose a new health plan through the Marketplace during open enrollment. If you don’t have health coverage during 2019, you may have to pay a fee.
