Due to the the shelter being at full capacity, we are unable to accommodate this program at this time. We will certainly resume when space allows. You can also call The Humane Society of Rochester at Lollypop Farm at (585) 223-1330 to see if they can assist.

If you are facing an emergency and need short-term housing for your pet, Rochester Animal Services may be able to help.  With the support of our volunteers and foster caregivers, our Temporary Emergency Pet Housing program offers temporary boarding in a foster home for pets of city residents facing hardship.

Temporary Emergency Pet Housing program requirements include but are not limited to:

  • Owner must be 18 years of age or older and a resident of the City of Rochester at the time of admission.  Proof of residency and age will be required.
  • Owner must have two forms of contact (phone, email, etc.) and consent to regular contact with staff. Owner must also provide an emergency contact or advocate.
  • Pets must be generally healthy and friendly with people and other animals.  Animals with special behavioral or medical needs may be accepted based on the availability of suitable foster homes.
  • We are able to accommodate a maximum of two dogs or cats per owner.

All animals entering the Temporary Emergency Pet Housing program will be evaluated medically and behaviorally and will be vaccinated and microchipped, as necessary.  Our goal is to facilitate reunification with your pet within 30 days.  Extensions may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

To register for the Temporary Emergency Pet Housing program and see if you qualify, please submit this brief form.  Our team will reach out within 72 hours to discuss your situation.  Contact us sooner rather than later.  The more time we have, the better able we are to assist.
