Event Accessibility
Checklist
The City of
Rochester encourages all public events to be reasonably accessible for people
with disabilities. Below is a basic checklist to use as a starting point for
planning accessible public events. Every event should maintain a planning
document that shows compliance with all Americans with Disabilities Act
elements including accessible parking, ADA-compliant bathrooms or portable
toilets, ramps, accessible seating, accessible paths of travel, etc..

□ Ensure the
event is in a physically accessible location.

staff/volunteers with knowledge about communicating with people with various
disabilities.

mark accessible parking, paths, entrances, and exits for the event.
□ Ensure
accessible routes are not blocked by any objects.

contact information for event organizer on advertisements and event website so
that requests can be made in advance for interpreters or other accommodations.
□ Ensure the
event has proper communication access by providing an ALS interpreter for major
performances or when requested prior to
the event.
□ Identify
the placement of all translators/interpreters.
□ Ensure
there are designated sections for Deaf/Hard of Hearing attendees in front of
the interpreter(s).
□ Ensure
restrooms/portable toilets are accessible.
