If you are organizing a FIRST-TIME race or walk to be held in Downtown Rochester, there are 4 routes that have been pre-approved by the Rochester Police Department for traffic closures, safety, and cost estimates that you can choose from. and convey your choice on the Special Events permit application.

When should a race/walk should be downtown?

  • More than 200 participants
  • When the registration/pre-gathering space requires use of a large venue like Blue Cross Arena or Frontier Field
  • The event's budget can support street closure costs (approx $4,000-11,000) 

When should a race/walk should be in a park or on a trail?  

  • Less than 200 participants
  • The event's budget cannot support street closure costs 
  • Event wants to design a unique route
  • Most frequently used park for this: Genesee Valley Park
