If you are organizing a FIRST-TIME race or walk to be held in Downtown Rochester, there are 4 routes that have been pre-approved by the Rochester Police Department for traffic closures, safety, and cost estimates that you can choose from. Use this link to view the routes

and convey your choice on the Special Events permit application.

When should a race/walk should be downtown?

  • More than 200 participants
  • When the registration/pre-gathering space requires use of a large venue like Blue Cross Arena or Frontier Field
  • The event's budget can support street closure costs (approx $4,000-11,000) 

When should a race/walk should be in a park or on a trail?  

  • Less than 200 participants
  • The event's budget cannot support street closure costs 
  • Event wants to design a unique route
  • Most frequently used park for this: Genesee Valley Park
