News Release - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Ice Rink to Host Family Night at the King

(Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren invites youth and families to participate in this season’s first “Family Night at the King” Friday, a free night of family ice skating at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park ice rink, 353 Court St.

“Family night at the King gives our residents a chance get some fresh air and exercise with their friends and family while enjoying one of the 14 parks in our Center City,” said Mayor Warren. “We are fortunate to live in a city with such wonderful parks and I encourage our residents to take advantage of these fantastic amenities all year long. The combination of our park system and innovative event programming makes Rochester a more attractive place to live, which helps us create more jobs, safer and more vibrant neighborhoods and better educational opportunities for our children.”

Family Night at the King will take place Friday, Feb. 2 from 7:20 to 8:50 p.m. and is free for families of up to two adults and four children. Friday’s theme will be Super Hero Night and will bring characters from a multitude of comic universes to the ice, including Wonder Woman, Captain America and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. There will also be prize giveaways and thematic decorations.

Adults 18 and older can also skate beneath the stars on the first Friday of each month of the outdoor skating season from 9:10 to 10:40 p.m. The normal $5 entrance fee applies.

Skate rentals are available for $3 per pair at both events. This outdoor rink is located in the heart of Downtown and provides an ideal place for family outings. Skaters will enjoy a warming shelter with heated floors and a fireplace.
