Public Market Wellness Series

 18-Market Wellness web page header The City of Rochester Public Market is pleased to offer a Wellness Series. This series brings organizations and agencies in the community dedicated to health and wellness to the Market to provide a wide array of information, education and even free screenings.  Our Wellness Series special guests are in very visible locations around the Market Office building (the two-story brick house) on busy Thursdays and Saturdays at the Market from spring through fall.  Bookmark this page to keep track of the constantly updated Wellness Series schedule; and stay tuned to our Facebook and Instagram, our Market Matters newsletter as well as to our on-site P.A. announcements, to know the current and coming Wellness Series offerings!

PlayDayROCs.  Once again, the Market will participate in a community wide day of play organized by the Healthi Kids Coalition of Common Ground Health.  The purpose of PlayDayROCs is to celebrate and advocate for play and excellent play spaces, opportunities and options in our community!  As in past years, the Market's PlayDayROCs site will encourage Market patrons to do a "Silly Walk" through a Market crosswalk! This activity is inspired by the famous Monty Python Flying Circus skit, The Ministry of Silly Walks!  (It just so happens that this year is the 50th anniversary of this famous sketch!)

Monroe County Health Department, State Tap Water Tasting Contest.  There may be nothing more important to wellness than clean, quality water! On this Saturday a at the Market, you can participate in a taste test, and help determine the state's best tasting water!

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Western NY Chapter.  This organization focuses on eliminating the loss of life from suicide by: delivering innovative prevention programs, educating the public about risk factors and warning signs, raising funds for suicide research and programs, and reaching out to those individuals who have lost someone to suicide.

Students and faculty from the Wegmans School of Pharmacy, Nursing, and Mental Health Counseling programs at St. John Fisher College will be engaging with the community, in order to improve health through better medication adherence. There will be free blood pressure readings, focused educational opportunities, patient handouts, and more!

YourCare Health Plan Teddy Bear Clinic
YourCare Health Plan (this year's sponsor of our Bands on the Bricks free live music series), is offering a Teddy Bear Clinic on Saturday, June 22! This free outreach program provides a hands-on opportunity for children to interact with common medical equipment, practice basic healthy habits, and feel more comfortable in the presence of health care professionals. YourCare's Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Joe Stankaitis, will be on hand to do teddy bear checkups, as well as demonstrate and explain basic health care treatments and tools. All this fun will allow kids to get more familiar with and comfortable with the medical field, medical professionals, and tips for the healthiest living!
