News Release

(Friday, August 17, 2018) — Cycle to the cinema  next Friday as the City of Rochester Public Market partners again with the Rochester Cycling Alliance and Rochester Bicycle Film Festival to offer a free bike-related movie at 280 N. Union St.

The 2018 Bike-In Movie is Quicksilver (1986), starring Kevin Bacon. In the film, up and coming broker Jack Casey crashes on the stock market and cashes in what he has left to become a bicycle messenger in San Francisco. Bicycling in San Francisco turns out to be dangerous after he runs into a street pusher who has messengers run drugs for him!

While bicycling to the event is not required, attendees are strongly encouraged to pedal to the event, whether on their own bike or a Pace bike-share program bike. Attendees should bring a blanket for seating, wear a bike helmet and bring good lights for biking home in the dark.

“Bike-In Movie at the City of Rochester Public Market is a perfect complement to all the exciting bicycling improvements we’re making across the City,” said Mayor Lovely A. Warren. “More and better bicycle lanes, paths, boulevard, and bike parking are online and in the works, and we now have an extensive bike-share program operational all around the city. The Bike Incentive/Reward program at the Public Market is yet another City effort to both encourage and reward Rochesterians who use bicycles for transportation. These cyclists make themselves healthier, take up a lot less space than vehicles and help keep our air cleaner too.”

From 7-9 p.m., while organizers and attendees wait for the sun to go down over the Market for the movie screening, enjoy performances by Flower City Vaudeville and music by well-known local musician Jackson Cavalier. Food and drink vendors will be on hand as well throughout.

Cyclists attending the event can also register for the Public Market’s Bike Incentive/Reward Program for those who use their bicycles to get to and from regular Market days and Market special events (www.cityforochester.gov/biketomarket). Those who ride to the Bike-In Movie and register for this program can also sign in for that week’s drawing of Market Gift Tokens.
