(Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018) – City and State leaders joined business owners Charles Hinkel and Greg Putrone today to celebrate the grand opening of the Rochester Laundry Depot on Lyell Avenue with a ceremonial ribbon cutting.

“Rochester Laundry Depot brings an important service to this neighborhood, which will help the residents of this area take care of a very critical need,” said Mayor Lovely A. Warren. “I am grateful to the owners of this business for making this investment in our city and supporting our efforts to create more jobs, safer and more vibrant neighborhoods and better educational opportunities.”

“Greg and I are excited to welcome Rochester Laundry Depot to the Lyell Avenue Neighborhood,” said Charles Hinkel, president of Rochester Laundry Depot. “We bring a business that not only is an essential service, but also a business that will be a good community partner.”

Deputy Mayor Dr. Cedric Alexander, State Senator Joseph Robach, City Councilmember Mitchell Gruber, and Dana Miller, Director of Development Services in the Department of Neighborhood and Business Development, joined the owners at the grand opening.

Rochester Laundry Depot, 1239 Lyell Ave., is a self-service, coin-operated laundry facility that hosts 19 washing machines and 20 dryers. The facility offers state-of-the-art equipment that allows customers to wash and dry their laundry in under an hour and save money on drying costs.

The business also offers drop off wash-and-fold service and plans to donate 10 percent of all proceeds from this service to a local charity.

The owners invested $300,000 to open the facility and used a $5,000 50-50 Matching Grant from the City of Rochester. The owners are seeking other locations to open laundry facilities in Rochester. Rochester Laundry Depot employs four people and plans to hire four more within three years. The facility is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Saturday.
