News Release - City of Rochester Wins National Recognition for its FOIL Online App and Reading Room

City of Rochester

News Release

(Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren announced today that the City of Rochester has been honored by the Center for Digital Government (CDG) for making it easier for people to request and view records with its online Freedom of Information Law system.

The annual Government Experience awards recognize the achievements and best practices of states, cities and counties that have gone to the web and beyond to radically improve the experience of government and push the boundaries of how citizen services are delivered. Top government jurisdictions, agencies and departments will be honored at an awards event Sept. 28 in Austin, Texas.

“Greater transparency in government is critical for ensuring greater accountability to our citizens,” Warren said. “The major upgrades the City made to its FOI process and the addition of an online ‘reading room’ means important information about City government, programs, projects and policies is more readily available.”

The Center for Digital Government is a national research and advisory institute focused on technology policy and best practices in state and local government. For 20 years, CDG’s Best of the Web Awards recognized and benchmarked state and local government progress online. Additionally, the Digital Government Achievement Awards recognized agency and department websites and apps.
