Employment of People with Disabilities - Identifying Barriers and Creating Opportunities

In 2017, the City of Rochester released a report uncovering wage disparities across race and gender. This report showed that race and gender are compounding factors leading to low wages for many Rochesterians. The report calls for a deeper dive into a community that makes Rochester unique: the disabled population. The goal of this report is for the community to gain a better understanding of this population and the key barriers they face to obtaining self-sufficiency. The authors examine how the disabled are an overlooked, but key portion of those in poverty in Rochester and list specific calls to action in order to move the needle on poverty in Rochester.
