News Release - City Launches Third Round of Training Program for Environmental Construction Jobs

City of Rochester

News Release

(Friday, Nov. 2, 2018) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren announced today that the City is launching its third round of training for the Rochester Environmental Job Training Program (REJob) to help disadvantaged citizens get jobs in the environmental construction industry.

“The REJob Training Program creates an opportunity to make sure the citizens who live in our neighborhoods are among the first to benefit from the investments we are making to improve our environment,” said Mayor Warren. “Giving our citizens a chance to earn a living while improving the quality of properties in their own neighborhoods will greatly enhance our efforts to create more jobs, safer more vibrant neighborhoods and better educational opportunities in our schools.”

The REJob Training Program recruits unemployed or underemployed city residents and provides them with the training to earn the required certification to work in the asbestos abatement, hazardous waste remediation and environmental cleanup fields. The program will also place successful students in full-time employment.

The City launched the program in 2016 and had a second round in 2017. Every graduate has found employment. The next eight-week class will begin in the middle of January.

This program is funded through an Environmental Workforce Development and Job Training Grant (EWDJT) from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The City will host four informational sessions for prospective students in the month of November. All meetings will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the following dates:

• Nov. 5: Carter Street R-Center, 500 Carter St.
• Nov. 7: Danforth Community Center, 200 West Ave.
• Nov. 14: Genesee Valley Field House, 1316 Genesee St.
• Nov. 15: David F. Gantt R-Center, 700 North St.
