City of Rochester
News Release
(Monday, Jan. 28, 2019) – The City of Rochester is
working closely with its partners to ensure that proper resources are on hand
to prepare for the cold temperatures and extreme wind chills forecasted over
the next few days. Mayor Lovely Warren is asking residents to take extra
precautions as well.
“The City has an excellent working relationship with
RG&E and our social service partners who are prepared to assist our
residents in need,” Mayor Warren said. “RG&E has assured us that they have
additional resources on hand to address any power outages that may occur.”
“I urge Rochester’s residents and families to take a few
minutes to prepare for the frigid temperatures by having emergency supplies on hand and stay
indoors,” Mayor Warren added. “If you do go outside, wear warm clothes and
avoid overexertion.”
The Rochester Fire Department asks that people use
caution while heating their homes. Do not leave open flames unattended and keep
space heaters at least 3 feet from flammable objects. If you use fueled heating
appliances, now is a good time to check them and make sure you have working
carbon monoxide detectors.
“Rochester has always been a caring, compassionate city,
and in times of crisis our greatest resource is each other,” Mayor Warren said.
“Please take the time to check in on your neighbors and join me in thanking the
many men and women who will be out working in these temperatures in effort to
keep everyone safe.”
Residents can dial 311 from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. for any
questions about City services. Please only call 911 if you are in need of
police, fire or medical services.
