News Release - Mayor Warren Welcomes Reef Shoppe to New Culver Road Location

City of Rochester

News Release

(Friday, March 8, 2019) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren is proud to welcome the Reef Shoppe to its new expanded location on Culver Road.

“The Reef Shoppe is an excellent example of how small businesses and innovation drive Rochester’s economy,” said Mayor Warren. “The growth and success of the Reef Shoppe in our city bodes well for this neighborhood and contributes to our efforts to create more jobs, safer and more vibrant neighborhoods and better educational opportunities for our city.”

“The Reef Shoppe has have always been proud to be part of Rochester’s aquarium scene and we look forward to promoting our brand of ‘aquatic excellence’ in our new location in the city of Rochester,” said Reef Shoppe owner Thomas Wood Jr. “We love designing with life.”

The Reef Shoppe, 2255 Culver Road, is a freshwater and saltwater aquarium design, installation and maintenance firm that has relocated from East Ridge Road in Irondequoit to accommodate its growth. The business specializes in professional “aqua-scaping” and artistic aquarium displays for the home or office.

Dana Miller, Director of Development Services, joined Mr. Wood and his employees Friday to celebrate the expansion and re-location of The Reef Shoppe with a ceremonial ribbon cutting.

Mr. Wood invested $400,000 to purchase and design the new building, which he chose for the property's central location, proximity to expressways and the aesthetic potential of the building. The new space features an expanded show room and is designed to look like an old shop with a modern twist.

The Reef Shoppe has grown from one to four employees with the expansion and expects to add two to three more within three years.

The store is open from noon to 8 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays.
