City of Rochester

News Release

(Tuesday, April 16, 2019) — Mayor Lovely A. Warren joined promoter Jeff Springut of Rochester Events to announce the 2019 lineup for the Party in the Park summer concert series. New this year, Party in the Park will include two special celebrations – Hometown Night in partnership with Champion Athleticwear, celebrating the company’s 100 year anniversary, and a Pride in the Park Night with the Out Alliance during Pride Week.

“These summer concerts are important because they build on Rochester’s great reputation for live music and the arts. And that reputation isn’t just local – it’s international,” said Mayor Lovely Warren. “Now, with these new partnerships, we can make Party in the Park even better. Live music with world-class talent is part of what makes this city a great place to live, work and play.”

Mayor Warren also congratulated promoter Jeff Springut, who is returning as the producer of Party in the Park. Springut was recently named to the Rochester Music Hall of Fame.

The series will kick off with Party in the Park with Champion Athleticwear, a hometown night that celebrates local talent, and the company that got its start in Rochester 100 years ago as Knickerbocker Knitting Mills. Champion will be providing custom designed Rochester themed T-shirts and other Champion items for event attendees on June 6.

“We are honored to be able to be part of this wonderful summer tradition in the city of Rochester, our hometown. The Champion brand is incredibly proud of our Rochester heritage and all of the men and women who helped build this brand,” said Matt Waterman, General Manager of Champion Athleticwear.

Also new this year, Party in the Park will celebrate Pride Week as part of a partnership with the Out Alliance and featuring “Almost Queen,” on July 18.

“The Out Alliance is beyond excited about partnering with the City for Party In The Park this summer. We celebrate LGBTQ+ life and culture every day at the Alliance and enjoy the opportunity to share our history, culture, color and diversity with the entire community through a Pride Party In The Park,” said Tamara Leigh, Director of Communications for the Out Alliance.

In addition to the music, this year’s Party in the Park will feature young artists with the ROC Paint program who will work with professional mural artists to create a unique mural in the bowl of the Martin Luther King Jr. Park. This project will unfold during the summer, allowing visitors to Party in the Park to watch the art as it happens.

“This mural will provide youth artists from the Roc Paint program an opportunity to work on a more complex mural project and exhibit their talents and artistry on a larger and more visible canvas,” Warren said.

The 23nd annual Party in the Park concert series will take place every Thursday from June 6 to Aug. 8 – except for July 4 -- from 5 to 10 p.m. Music starts at 5:30 p.m.
