News Release - Mayor Warren Welcomes Groom Room Men’s Spa and Lounge to Tremont Street

City of Rochester

News Release

(Wednesday, April 24, 2019) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren is proud to welcome the Groom Room Men’s Spa and Lounge to Tremont Street.

“Men who are willing to make an extra effort to invest in their personal care and appearance represent a growing segment of the U.S. economy,” said Mayor Warren “I want to congratulate Monique Chatman for being among the first entrepreneurs to recognize this business opportunity in Rochester and stepping forward to meet the needs of these customers. The opening of the Groom Room in our city bodes well our efforts to create more jobs, safer and more vibrant neighborhoods and better educational opportunities.”

“I am so excited to open the Groom Room and demonstrate that Rochester is definitely ready for some well-kept men,” said Monique Chatman. “More and more men are beginning to understand that the condition of their hands, feet, skin and beard send a loud message before they utter their first words. The Groom Room will cater to those men who understand that their appearance is an important part of their overall success.”

Dana Miller, Director of Development Services, and City Council Vice President Willie J. Lightfoot joined Ms. Chatman to celebrate the grand opening of the Groom Room with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The Groom Room, 215 Tremont St., is a men’s spa and lounge that offers facials, beard treatments, manicures, pedicures and skin care. Ms. Chatman intends to add barber services soon. The shop offers its own proprietary line of beard and skin care products called Love Monkey. Ms. Chatman is a Rochester native who studied at the Continental School of Beauty and holds licenses in Esthetics and Nail Specialty.

Ms. Chatman worked as a skin and nail specialist at a local barber shop when she began to realize there are enough men in Rochester interested in self-care to support her own business. She was grieving the loss of her mother to cancer at that time and decided to name her product line after her mother’s childhood nickname. The Groom Room employs three people and expects to grow to 15 within three years.

The store is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Fridays; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays; and by appointment on Mondays.
