News Release - Mayor Warren Kicks Off Public Safety Recruitment Campaign with Rochester Faith Community

City of Rochester

News Release

(Tuesday, May 28, 2019) - Mayor Lovely A. Warren announced today that the City of Rochester is partnering with Rochester clergy to recruit uniformed personnel for the City’s Police Department, Fire Department and the Department of Emergency Communications (911). All three departments have exams being held this summer.

“This is an excellent career opportunity for the citizens of Rochester to earn a good living wage with great benefits while protecting and serving our community,” said Mayor Warren. “It’s also uncommon for all three agencies to recruit at the same time, so I encourage residents to take advantage of this opportunity.”

Beginning Sunday, June 2, recruiters from the three public safety agencies will visit services at houses of worship each Sunday in June to provide brochures and posters with information and requirements for the job titles of 911 Dispatcher, Police Officer and Firefighter.

“Our goal is to continue to improve diversity in the uniformed ranks in the City’s public safety departments, both in gender and ethnicity,” said Mayor Warren. “We believe that our sworn officers or sworn personnel should reflect the communities they serve.”

Interested candidates should attend the following participating houses of worship and service times:

• 9:30 a.m., Sunday, June 2: Heart & Soul Community Church, 1185 N. Clinton Ave.

• 10:30 a.m., Sunday, June 9: Glory House International, 44 Exchange Blvd. (lower level)

• 11 a.m., Sunday, June 16: Aenon Missionary Baptist Church, 175 Genesee St.

• 10:45 a.m., Sunday, June 23: Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 304 Joseph Ave.

• 11:30 a.m., Sunday, June 30: Faith, Healing & Deliverance, 875 E. Main St., 3rd Floor.

The three departments will conduct recruitment activities throughout Rochester over the next several weeks and months.

All three jobs require a written exam and a successful background check. The Police Officer and Firefighter jobs also have physical fitness requirements.
