City of Rochester News Release -- Genesee Valley Park Pool to Open Sunday, June 16, 2019

(Thursday, June 13, 2019) — Mayor Lovely A. Warren today announced that the City of Rochester’s outdoor swimming season begins this Sunday, June 16, with the opening of the pool at Genesee Valley Park (GVP), 131 Elmwood Ave. The pool will be open seven days a week throughout the summer season, which runs through Labor Day (Sept. 2, 2019).

“The City of Rochester has an outstanding summer aquatics program, and offers a great opportunity for everyone to keep cool during the summer heat,” said Mayor Warren. “On a hot summer day, there’s no better place than the Genesee Valley Park pool to enjoy the water and have tons of safe and affordable fun.”

During its opening week, June 16 – 22, the GVP pool will operate with special limited hours. The pool will be open on Sunday, June 16 and Saturday, June 22 from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. Additional weekday hours will be added beginning June 24.

The GVP pool offers open swim, lap swim, family swim sessions, and other program options. Youth can also register to participate in the Summer Swim Academy Swim Lessons that take place July 1 – Aug. 12.

Admission to the GVP pool is $3 for ages 18 and over, and $1 for youth ages 6 – 17. Children age 5 and under are free, but must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Season passes are available for $40. Annual passes, which include use of both the GVP and Adams Street pools, can be purchased for $50. GVP has full locker rooms available for use, but pool patrons must bring their own locks.
