City of Rochester

News Release

(Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019) - Rochester Animal Services will host a one-day, free pet adoption event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 24 at Rochester Animal Services Center, 184 Verona St.

Thanks to support from the Petco Foundation and City Council Vice President Willie Lightfoot, adoption fees will be waived for all cats and dogs six months of age and older that are adopted on Saturday.

“We appreciate the support from Council Vice President Lightfoot and the Petco Foundation in helping us save more animal lives,” said Mayor Lovely Warren. “Investments like this in our community help us continue our mission of creating safer/more vibrant neighborhoods, better educational opportunities for our children and more jobs for our citizens.”

“I’m excited to provide support to Rochesterians who are looking to expand their families by welcoming one of our shelter pets. Pets bring us so much joy and show us unconditional love. I’m looking forward to a successful event that connects our shelter pets with loving homes,” said Council Vice President Lightfoot.

Please bring a collar and leash or pet carrier to ensure that pets are transported to their new homes safely. Visitors will be allowed access to the building in small groups to minimize stress on the animals.

Please be prepared for the weather and for waiting in line outside of the shelter.
