Statement
from President Loretta C. Scott on Finance Committee Meeting with RCSD:
The
crisis that looms over the District cannot be overlooked, and the potential
financial impact that it may have on all City residents is serious and should
not be ignored or sugarcoated. For decades, the City of Rochester has
been fiscally prudent, allowing the City to bond for projects at extremely low
costs. However, the continuous fiscal mismanagement of the District
threatens the City’s financial standing. If the City is downgraded by
credit agencies it will cost taxpayers more to fund projects that are needed
throughout the City – everything from road and bridge repairs to improving our
municipal facilities like our R-Centers.
Tomorrow,
Thursday, October 10, 2019 the Rochester City Council’s Finance Committee will
hold a special meeting with members of the Rochester City School District
Administration and Board of Education at 5:30pm in Council Chambers. It is our
hope that tomorrow’s meeting will provide detailed information about the
current fiscal crisis at the District. We must correct this mismanagement
and ensure that the District does not continue down this path.
