Council Announces
Police Accountability Board
Today,
the Rochester City Council submitted legislation to appoint the membership of
the Police Accountability Board (PAB) in accordance with the requirements of
Local Law 2019-2 passed unanimously by the Council in May 2019 and affirmed
through the Referendum Vote on Election Day, November 5, 2019.
The
Council put out a call to the community earlier this winter asking for those
interested in serving on the PAB to send their resume to the Council Office for
consideration. The Council has 4 of the 9 seats to fill on the Board and
received 61 resumes to consider. Additionally, the Police Accountability
Board Alliance (PABA) submitted 12 names to the Council to consider for the 4
PABA nominated seats and the Mayor forwarded her selection for the Mayoral
appointment.
“The
members selected come from neighborhoods across the City; they have different
backgrounds and experiences, and are representative of the different
ethnicities, races, genders, ages and religious affiliations of our
residents. They represent advocates for the LGBTQ+ communities and the
deaf and hard of hearing community; they include a veteran of the United States
Armed Forces; clergy leaders and medical experts. They have training in
mediation, Board leadership experience, and have served as community
organizers. Though the task ahead of them is great, I have the utmost
confidence that this group will establish a transparent and effective PAB for
Rochester,” said Council President Loretta C. Scott.

best interests of our community. The individuals selected understand the
importance of this Board’s work and are committed to ensuring that the process
is transparent and deliberative,” said Loretta C. Scott.
