News Release -- City Seeks Public Input on HUD Funding

City of Rochester

News Release

(Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2020) – The City of Rochester is inviting city residents to a public meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, at the Phillis Wheatley Community Library, 33 Dr. Samuel McCree Way to help identify and prioritize new and existing programs for HUD funding. The City will seek input that will guide the Five-Year Consolidated Plan and the Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice.

The five-year Consolidated Plan serves as a key implementation tool for the goals and strategies identified in the recently-adopted “Rochester 2034” Comprehensive Plan; provides direction for the use of the City’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG); Home Investment Partnerships Program (HOME); Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG); and Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) funds from HUD.

The Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice will analyze how Rochester is expanding housing choice among members of the protected classes. Barriers to housing choice will be identified and a Fair Housing Action Plan will include strategies to eliminate the barriers. The plans detail how the City will allocate funds according to locally identified priorities and affirmatively further fair housing over the next five years.

Public comments may also be delivered by Feb. 7 via email to Elizabeth Murphy at Elizabeth.Murphy@cityofrochester.gov.

A second phase of public input will be held in the spring of to review the draft Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice and Consolidated Plan.
