City of Rochester
News Release
(Friday, March 13, 2020) – The City of Rochester’s Black
Heritage Committee today announced that its annual Black Heritage Gala, which
had been scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 28, will be postponed until
a later date that is yet to be determined.
In addition, the Committee is also cancelling this year’s Community and
College Gospel Explosion, which was set to take place at First Genesis Baptist
Church from 6 – 9 p.m. on April 4.
“For the safety of our community, we have decided to
follow the recommendations outlined by the Monroe County Department of Health,
which discourages gatherings of more than 50 people at this time,” said City
Council President Loretta C. Scott, who also serves as the Chairperson of the
Black Heritage Committee. “While we plan
to reschedule the gala as soon as we are able to do so, it would be very
difficult to find another date for the gospel concert since college choirs were
involved. Many of these students are now heading home to finish the semester
online.”
Information regarding the new date for the Black Heritage
Gala will be announced as soon as possible.
