News Release

(Thursday, March 19, 2020) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren is reminding all residents that social distancing should be practiced at all times, even at outdoor venues.

“During these challenging times, preventing the spread of COVID-19 should always be on our minds and in our actions,” said Mayor Warren.   “While we must continue to function and live our lives, we must do so while exercising the utmost caution, and that includes practicing social distancing to keep ourselves, our families and our neighbors safe.”

With schools and colleges closed, and a growing number of area business and entertainment spots temporarily shutting their doors, reducing staff or allowing employees to work from home, many people are turning to outdoor activities to ward off boredom and get some exercise.

Residents should remember that while visiting public parks, beaches or other types of outdoor recreational facilities, social distancing still plays a critical role in stopping the spread of the Coronavirus.  Therefore, it is best to avoid crowded areas, sports activities that require close bodily contact and play areas with large numbers of children.

“As a community, I know that we’ll get through this crisis,” Mayor Warren concluded.  “But until that time arrives, we must do all that we can to ensure the health, safety and well-being of all of our citizens.”
